For years, Henrique Balsemão has travelled the world as a producer of his own TV show.
However, the more he travelled, the more he was certain that the most beautiful region that he had ever seen, and the place where he wanted to live, was the southwest coast of Portugal, where he spent some of the best times in his life, surfing.

And his boy’s dream eventually came true. Destiny finally brought him to Amado, a beach with a very special mystic which is a sort of surf Meca for people all over the world.

At Monte Velho, Henrique gave his life a new direction and offered his family and those who share his vision of the world, a place where human living and nature managed to achived a truly balanced relationship.

Situated on a 54-hectare farm in the middle of the natural park of costa vicentina, between the unspoilt beaches of amado and carrapateira, monte velho is an ecological reserve which benefits from a favoured locality.

This old alentejo farmhouse keeps the traditional architecture; the rooms are in a row under a traditional loggia with white walls striped with indigo blue, large wicker chairs, lanterns and hammocks.

A relaxing atmosphere, emphasized by the contrast between the sea and the wild countryside of the mountains, and by the breeze, which carries the heavy smell of heather and rosemary.

At night the intimate atmosphere is created by the light of innumerable candles and on colder nights by the fire of a wood-burning stove.
